The Three S’s of Plastic Surgery | Surgeon, Site and Strategy

Exploring plastic surgery for the first time can be a daunting task.  It’s easy to feel confused and overwhelmed by all the questions: What provider should I go to?  Are all plastic surgery clinics the same? What can plastic surgery do for me? With “white coat deception” running rampant, the answers to these questions become even more important.  White coat deception, for those that don’t know, is the practice of physicians performing plastic and cosmetic surgery without board certification.  In fact, according to a recent ABC article, “In 48 states it is currently legal in the United States for doctors who are not certified by the board of plastic surgeons to practice cosmetic and plastic surgery.”

Simply put, we are deeply concerned with white coat deception, and we want to ensure the best care possible for you.  So, before you have any cosmetic treatment, remember our three S’s — Surgeon, Site and Strategy:

  • Surgeon: Choosing an experienced, credentialed surgeon is the most important step for any plastic surgery candidate.  Ask to see their credentials, and always make sure you’re dealing with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.  Also, take a look at their Before and After Photos.  This can give you a sense of the type of work they’ve done in the past.
  • Site: Where you’re being treated is just as important as who’s treating you.  When it comes to cosmetic procedures – especially surgical procedures – it’s important that you’re being cared for in a State of the Art Plastic Surgery Facility.
  • Strategy: Make sure your provider is telling you all your options, explaining the risks and working with you to create a comprehensive cosmetic strategy.  Use your Plastic Surgery Consultation to ask questions, learn the facts and set realistic goals.
