The True Measure of Plastic Surgery Success

What is a successful plastic surgery?  Yes, of course, a successful plastic surgery means the operation was smooth, went off without a hitch and provided the desired cosmetic results.  But, was the patient satisfied?  Did it change their quality of life?  Was it worth it? That is the true measure of plastic surgery success.

This year, included with their plastic surgery procedural statistics, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) included a report on several procedures’ “Worth It” rating.  According to the ASAPS, “The RealSelf Worth It Rating reflects the combined opinions of thousands of RealSelf community members. Each member shares whether an elective surgery or treatment was “worth it” all things considered.”

So, read on to learn which procedures were “worth it” for patients.

Is Plastic Surgery Worth It?

According to the ASAPS, “Worth It Ratings are expressed as a percentage, for example, an 80% Worth It [rating] means 8 out of 10 patients would do it again.”  Based on the ASAPS report, here are the Worth It Ratings for some of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the US:

  • Breast Augmentation — Worth It Rating: 84.5%
Breast Augmentation is a cosmetic procedure aimed at increasing the size and fullness of the chest.  Through the placement of saline or silicone implants, we can enhance the appearance of breasts that appear too small or disproportionate.
  • Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) — Worth It Rating: 93%
Abdominoplasty — also known as Tummy Tuck Surgery —is a surgical procedure that works to shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles.  Our practice also offers a partial abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a “Mini Tummy Tuck.”
  • Breast Lift — Worth It Rating: 82%
Breast Lift Surgery — also known as mastopexy — is a surgery aimed at correcting the appearance of breasts that have sagged or drooped.  During the procedure, we trim excess skin and tighten supporting tissues to achieve an uplifted, youthful contour.

All things considered, most patients saw these procedures as  “worth it” for them.  Think plastic surgery might be right for you? Take the first step — schedule a plastic surgery consultation today!
