Anxious? How It Could Start Showing on Your Face!

Facial Plastic Surgery Long Island Anxiety – we all know it’s not good for our quality of life or our health.  But, have you every considered that anxiety could impact your appearance?  Could excessive fear and worry actually promote the telltale signs of aging – wrinkles, facial sagging, skin discoloration?  It seems that might be the case.

Researchers at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital recently conducted a study on the connection between anxiety and the length of our body’s telomeres.  What are telomeres?  “Telomeres are DNA-protein complexes at the ends of chromosomes,” explains a recent press release from the hospital. They “are considered markers of biological or cellular aging.” And, this study found that phobic anxiety is associated with shorter telomeres in middle-aged and older women.  What could that mean for you?  According to the press release, this finding “suggests that phobic anxiety is a possible risk factor for accelerated aging.”

Of course, this is only one study, and much research is yet to be conducted.  It does, however, start an interesting conversation on the connection between emotional state and appearance.

Turning Back the Clock

Of course, the aging process is an inevitable part of life – whether or not you’re anxious!  Thankfully, however, cosmetic medicine offers a few solutions.  Want to know what other patients are choosing?

Here are a few of the most popular cosmetic procedures among patients today:

  • BOTOX® and Fillers: BOTOX and dermal fillers continue to be the largest category of cosmetic treatments in the US.  BOTOX, which is essentially a muscle relaxer, works to prevent facial creases, such as smile lines and laugh lines.  Fillers like JUVÉDERM®, on the other hand, are used to fill in creases, add volume to the skin and restore a more youthful face shape.
  • Facelift Surgery: A facelift is one the best ways to combat the appearance of facial sagging and a loss of muscle tone.  During the procedure, we tighten underlying muscles and redrape the skin around the neck and face.  As one of the most effective procedures around, facelift surgery will often take years off a patient’s appearance.
  • Eyelid Lift: Also known as a blepharoplasty procedure, an eyelid lift is designed to counter the appearance of tired, drooping eyelids.  By removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, many patients find that the procedure achieves a fresher, more alert appearance.
