Hitting the Beach After Your Breast Augmentation or Reduction

The warm weather has arrived in many parts of the country, and surely you want to get out and enjoy some fun in the sun! If you have recently had a breast augmentation or a breast reduction, however, you need to be cautious about your activities. There are some things that can impact your recovery that you might not expect. Take note before hitting the beach this upcoming long weekend!

Post Operative Beach Hazards

Even if you are highly focused upon the more practical components of recovery, there are some other things that you need to think about:

  • Ensure that the sunscreen you choose to apply is safe for your healing incision site. Your doctor can provide you with more details depending upon the stage of your recovery and your health history.
  • While water may not be bad for your incisions, remember that water in oceans and lakes may have other contaminants that could cause irritation.
  • Keep in mind that direct sun exposure can be detrimental to healing incisions, so make sure that you are appropriately covered up.
  • Laying out on a beach towel may cause unnecessary strain on your body. Posture plays a role in healing, so ensure that you bring a comfortable chair with you to the beach.
