How Long Will it Take Your Body to Get Back to Normal After Pregnancy?

Even women that focus on remaining healthy during pregnancy have weight to lose postpartum. After all, a healthy weight gain is 15-30 lbs.  Immediately after giving birth, it is common for women to lose an average of 10 lbs. Most women struggle to lose the remaining weight when the priority is caring for a newborn. However, that doesn’t eliminate the desire they have to get their pre-pregnancy bodies back.

Emotionally, it can help women to understand how long it typically takes for them to lose the weight. It can also help them determine when and if they will benefit from a mommy makeover for the body.

Typical Weight Loss After Pregnancy

Of course the average time it takes women to lose weight after pregnancy varies. Some women that exercise daily may lose the remaining weight in a few months. However, it is important to note that a healthy weight loss is about 1-2 lbs per week. This means that many women can take up to a year to lose the weight. Women are also concerned about losing the pregnancy ‘pooch’ that lingers after delivery. Some women lose this in a matter of days. For others, it can be upwards of one month.

What many women do find, however, is that once they have lost the weight, their bodies are not the same as they once were. At their pre-pregnancy weight, they may find that they have a greater amount of fat in the abdominal area of cellulite in their thighs. Women should be prepared that even weight loss may not get them back to their ‘original’ bodies.
