Questions About Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a popular procedure among patients who want to revive or refresh eyes that appear tired, puffy or droopy. Below are answers to some of the most common questions asked by candidates choosing to undergo blepharoplasty.

What Does Eyelid Surgery Correct?

Blepharoplasty can correct and improve a number of cosmetic concerns around the eyes. They include:

  • Excess skin on lower lids
  • Fine lines on lower lids
  • Puffy fat deposits on the upper lids
  • Sagging lower lids
  • Sagging upper lids that affect vision
  • Under eye bags

How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?

Eyelid surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and IV sedation. The procedure usually takes 45 minutes. Incisions are made in the eyelids along the natural creases of the eye, so as to hide any scarring. In cases where no skin needs to be removed, the surgeon will likely make an incision on the inside of the lower lid, avoiding scars altogether.

The surgeon then removes any excess skin and fat deposits, before closing the incision.

Am I A Good Candidate?

The best candidates for blepharoplasty includes:

  • Patients in generally good health
  • Non-smokers
  • Individuals with realistic expectations
  • Patients who do not have a serious eye condition

Dr. Rhee takes the time to examine and consult with each patient prior to booking a surgery.

What Is The Recovery Period?

Most eyelid surgery patients are able to resume their normal activities in three t five days. Swelling and bruising are normal, and to be expected, typically clearing up two to four weeks. The true, final results of blepharoplasty will show within one to two months following surgery.
