New Study Confirms that Plastic Surgery Can Make You Look Younger

Most people seek out a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon because they want to look younger, fresher, more rejuvenated.  So, just how many years can plastic surgery take off your appearance?  A new study published in the Archives of Plastic Surgery sought to find that out.  CBS News is reporting on this study that looked at 60 patients who had undergone cosmetic facial procedures.  “The patients were divided into three groups: the first had face and neck lifts; the second had face and neck lifts and eyelid work; the third had eyelid work and face, neck, and forehead lifts,” CBS explains. “Forty volunteer medical school students then guessed patients’ ages based on photographs.”  The results may surprise you.

According to the CBS article, “The average perceived change in the first group was 5.7 years, 7.5 years in the second, and 8.5 years in the third – 7.2 years [younger] on average.” So, when someone asks if surgery can actually turn back the clock, we can now confidently say yes!  Read on to learn more about facial procedures used in this study.

Facial Procedures that Can Turn Back the Clock

When it comes to looking younger, often one of the most effective procedures is a facelift.  During Facelift Surgery, underlying facial muscles are tightened and the skin is redraped around the face and neck.  This procedure is used primarily to combat the appearance of facial sagging and the loss of muscle tone.

Eyelid surgery, also known as Blepharoplasty, is another common and effective way to turn back the clock.  So common, in fact, that there were nearly 200,000 cosmetic eye lift surgeries performed in 2011 alone, based on the most recent data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  During an eyelid lift, we remove excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids in the hopes of achieving a fresher, more youthful appearance.
