Lip Augmentation for Fuller, More Plump Lips

Full, plump lips have long been associated with youth and beauty.  However, countless women today are dissatisfied with the shape and size of their lips, whether because they appear too thin with age, or because they are simply flat.  Thankfully, for those women, there are cosmetic procedures available that aim to produce the fuller, more beautiful lips they’ve always wanted.

Lip augmentation is a common and time-tested cosmetic treatment.  Further, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, thousands upon thousands of women undergo the procedure every year. Lip augmentation is achieved through different means, tailored to the needs of the patient.  Read on to learn more about the surgical and non-surgical lip enhancement methods we employ today.

Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Methods

Lip Augmentation with Injectable Fillers:

One method of lip augmentation is through the use of injectable fillers.  Fillers, such as Restylane, are used to add shape and volume to the lips.  Restylane is injected directly into the lips with an ultra-fine needle, and the whole procedure typically takes less than an hour.  Although every patient is different, the effects of a Restylane lip treatment can last up to six months.  For a more permanent option, however, surgical lip augmentation may be the better answer for you.

Surgical Lip Augmentation:

For those who desire longer-lasting results, there are also surgical methods to consider, namely implants.  Implants are used to provide fuller or overall more-balanced lips.  Depending on your cosmetic goals, the implant will either be synthetic, taken from the patient’s body or taken from a donor’s body.  In order to keep the patient comfortable throughout, lip augmentation is performed under local anesthesia.
