So many of us forget about our necks, but they can really give away our age–especially if you take great care of your face. If your neck is starting to sag and age you, then keep reading to learn about a neck lift.
What is it?
A neck lift, also called a lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the neck area. Sometimes, it can also involve moving underlying muscles to improve signs of aging in the jawline and neck.
The muscles in your neck may be adding to the droopiness of your neck, instead of just skin, as you may think. Adjusting or excising parts of the neck muscles can help restore a youthful look to your neck by leaving it with a smoother, more sculpted appearance.
Younger patients may also benefit from a neck lift if they have lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Skin can lose elasticity, and may not fit the body perfectly anymore if you have suddenly lost a lot of weight in that area.
Procedure
There are two procedures that can be included in your neck lift: a cervicoplasty or a platysmaplasty. A cervicoplasty involves the removal of extra skin and then places the remaining skin closer to the body, which corrects the droopiness and the wrinkles that took over the neck’s appearance. A platysmaplasty tightens the the underlying muscles in the neck, which leaves you with a smoother, tighter neck that looks younger and more firm.
