If you’re like most women considering breast augmentation, you have a great deal of questions about the procedure and to expect afterwards. While you should do some research on your own, it’s important to have an experienced plastic surgeon answer all of your questions prior to surgery. To follow are some common questions about what you can expect after breast augmentation.
How soon after my surgery can I return to work?
This depends on several factors, including your job, how involved your surgery was, and how fast you heal. If you have a physically demanding job, you may need to take more time off than if you have a sedentary job. If you had breast augmentation combined with breast lift surgery, your recovery time will be longer than if you had augmentation alone. Generally speaking, patients need about a week to properly heal.
How long after my surgery can I start exercising?
Usually, patients are advised to wait two to three weeks. Although you may feel fine sooner, you will not be completely healed from the surgery and exercising too soon after surgery can hinder your healing process.
My breasts still feel numb. When will that feeling go away?
Numbness of the breasts is normal for a few weeks after surgery, though it usually fades within five or six weeks of the procedure. Some women may experience numbness up to a year after their surgery, though that is extremely rare.
My breasts look way too big now. When can I have the procedure re-done?
Keep in mind that in the first weeks after surgery, your breasts may appear larger than they normally would due to swelling. Wait until the swelling has gone down completely before you decide that your breasts look too big and you want another surgery. If you still think that your breasts look too big after several months, speak to your plastic surgeon about revision augmentation surgery.
